This is typically a very emotional process for you personally. That’s why it’s so important to have a knowledgeable advisor helping you through the process to take the emotion out of your financial decision making. We’ll work with you and your attorney to make sure that you get what’s rightfully yours. Our job is to help you create your own financial plan to protect and grow your money and assets for your new future.
Divorce forces dozens of financial decisions at exactly the moment it’s hardest to think clearly about money. Our role as your divorce financial advisor is to take the emotion out of those decisions: we inventory the marital assets, value them properly, and make sure you understand what each one is really worth after taxes and liquidity are considered.
Not all dollars are equal. A $500,000 brokerage account with large embedded gains, a $500,000 pre-tax 401(k), and $500,000 of home equity are three very different assets — and settlements that look even on paper often aren’t. We make sure you’re comparing apples to apples before you sign anything.
We collaborate directly with your attorney throughout the process: analyzing proposed settlements, modeling alimony and child support against your real cost of living, and handling the mechanics of dividing retirement accounts — including QDROs for 401(k)s and pensions and trustee-to-trustee transfers for IRAs, so the division doesn’t trigger avoidable taxes or penalties.
We also help with the details that get missed: updating beneficiary designations, retitling accounts, reviewing life and health insurance, and unwinding joint financial accounts cleanly.
Once the settlement is final, a new chapter starts — with a new budget, new goals, and often the first investment portfolio that’s entirely yours. We help you invest your settlement in line with your objectives, rebuild retirement projections around one income, and create a financial plan designed to protect and grow your assets for your new future.
